WANDA JEAN BYRD SMOTHERMON

Wanda Jean Byrd Smothermon passed away August 26, 2014 at the Conroe Regional Hospital at the age of 86.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, 2:00p.m., August 30, 2014 at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.

She was a longtime resident of the Texas City area but more recently lived in the Conroe. She was born in Van Austin, Texas on December 10, 1927 to Arthur and Mary Beatrice Watts. She was preceded in death by her five siblings, A. O., Dube, Bea, and Opal. She married was married to Eugene Doyle Byrd of Texas City on January 3, 1946 for 42 years living in Texas and New Mexico. They both enjoyed dancing and playing golf. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 11 years, Tommy Lee Smothermon of League City.

She is survived by her loving daughter Mary Ann Contella and soninlaw, Milton Contella of Montgomery. She was the beloved grandmother to her granddaughter and her husband, Melanye and Doug Otto of Cypress, grandson and his wife, Alan and Bridget Thompson of Friendswood, and also her stepgrandchildren Ann and Steve Contella. Her sister Kat.

Her greatgrandchildren were so blessed to have been close to her and will miss her deeply they are Kaitlyn, Kyle, Matthew, Madeleine, Meredith and stepgreatgrandchildren Taylor, Payton, and Max.

The family wants to express appreciation to the care given to her by her physicians and the staff at the hospital, especially Dr. Glen Berwick of Conroe.
The family especially recognizes the staff and residents of her second home, the Carriage Inn in Conroe who provided her with love, companionship and support throughout her 6 years living there.
