Born Vlasta Milady Kamas on December 15, 1926 to Stepan and Milady Kamas of Wesley, Texas, Vlasta, her parents and 3 brothers, Lad, Leroy and Gene, lived and worked on the Kamas Family Farm in Wesley. At 15, due to WWII gas rationing, she moved in with relatives in Houston, attended Reagan High School, and graduated in 1944.
In June 1945 she joined the Army Cadet Nurse Corp studying nursing at Herman Hospital, she met classmate Hazel Ingram and graduated in 1948 as a Registered Nurse.
On August 17 1947, she was joined in the covenant of marriage to Roland Baldwin of Texas City. There, they made their home and raised their children, Gene, David & Kim. Roland worked as an instrument man at the AMOCO refinery. Hazel Ingram Clark and husband Don also made their home in Texas City so Vlasta and Hazel, their husbands and children, were able to continue spending fun times together. But, on November 22, 1973, Vlasta's precious husband, Roland, went to be with the Lord.
Vlasta was a generous, compassionate woman, who for 45 years invested herself in the care and healing of others, nursing at Danforth Hospital and Galveston County Memorial Hospital (now Mainland Center) until joyfully retiring from nursing in 1993.
She was a delightful person, an exceptional homemaker and cook. Her family loved her fried chicken, gumbo and pies! She was ever the "Charge" Nurse, solving problems and doing whatever she could to help her family and friends.
She asked JESUS to be her Lord and Savior and was reborn by the spirit of Almighty GOD on September 2, 1990. She was quick to share her faith in the Lord with everyone she met.
Vlasta was met at Heaven's Gate by beloved family members, husband of 26 years Roland Baldwin, son Gene Baldwin, parents Steve & Milady Kamas, brother Ladislav (Lad) Kamas and many other relatives and friends. She is survived by son David Baldwin and wife Vicky, daughter Kim Baldwin, favorite daughter-in-law (FDIL) Dallas Baldwin, brothers Leroy Kamas, Gene Kamas and wife Mary Lou, granddaughters Diana Taylor, Perri Guidry and Hope Pierce, great grandchildren Morgan Taylor and Alrik Tru Pierce, special nieces & nephews and their extended families and beloved friends Hazel Ingram Clark, of Texas City and Lillian Ashorn Wilhelm, of Hamilton, TX.
Vlasta's name, written in the Lamb's Book of Life, sealed her ultimate destiny and her Heavenly future holds an adventure yet unfolding!
