Tommy Briggs

Tommy Ray Briggs, beloved husband, dad, granddaddy, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away November 23, 2017, at the age of 81 years. He spent his last night on earth visiting and laughing with family and friends and died peacefully in his sleep next to the woman he loved and cherished.

Tommy was born July 16, 1936, in Kosse, Texas, to Annie Merle and Pink Briggs; the family moved to Texas City when he was 6 years old. He graduated from LaMarque High School in 1955 and went to work at Texas City Refinery on August 5, 1957 where he worked for 42 years. He married the love of his life on January 15, 1977; together they found a friendship, successfully merged and raised a family, and built a beautiful marriage. Tommy was an avid reader, his grandchildren would say he was a walking encyclopedia, he loved his football and NASCAR, and always had "sauce" available to add to your drink while enjoying great conversation. But more than anything his wife, children, grandchildren and family were his pride and joy.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Pink and Annie Merle Briggs, his sister Meloise Albritton, and his daughter, Lisa Briggs Palmer. He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Briggs; sister Francis Rohden and brother Willis Briggs and wife Margaret; his children, Cindy Edge and husband Jay, Stephen Clement, Kevin Briggs and wife Cindy, Caron Park and husband John, and Bart Clement and wife Keisha; his wonderful and beloved grandchildren, Amy Palmer, Joey Palmer and wife Anastasia, Cristen Arroyo and husband Fernando, Matt Palmer and wife Heather, Darren Edge and wife Cianna, Mitchell Edge, Sarah Briggs, Rachel Briggs, Braeden Briggs, Taylor Park, Katie Park, Kaleb Jordan, Kane Clement and wife Jill, and Kennedy Clement; his amazing great-grandchildren, Emily and Austin Granbery, Aiden, Paige, and Macey Palmer, Jordan, Mia, and Eli Arroyo, Seth Palmer, Elena Edge, and Keylee Clement; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of Tommy's life will be held at 10am on Saturday, December 2, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City, with Pastor Lonnie Gonzales officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster. The family will receive visitors Friday, December 1, from 5-7pm at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Tommy's grandsons will honor their Grandad as pallbearers, they are Matt Palmer, Darren Edge, Kaleb Clement, Taylor Park, Kane Clement, Mitchell Edge, Fernando Arroyo, and Andrew Currid.

Tommy had macular degeneration in both eyes. Memorial donations in memory of Tommy may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation at www.eyesight.or
