The soul that departs in the Lord does not die; it returns to God, the Giver of Life.
Our beloved father, Roy Díaz of Houston, Texas, passed away on August 14, 2024, at the age of 69, after a long illness, surrounded by his family. Roy was a man whose strength, integrity, and love left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born December 9, 1954, and raised in Houston, Roy's life was defined by his unwavering commitment to family. Even as a young man, he took on responsibilities far beyond his years, ensuring that his mother never faced struggles. His respect and devotion to her were the hallmarks of an exceptional son, a protector of their home, and a source of unwavering support.
Roy's love story with Sylvia Alaniz Díaz was one of resilience and enduring respect. Though their marriage ended early, their bond never truly broke. Together, they nurtured their three children with a deep sense of love and unity that transcended life's challenges. As a single father, Roy embodied the spirit of devotion, living by his mantra, "You gotta take care of business." His love for his children was the guiding force of his life, and he made sure they always knew they were cherished and cared for.
Known for his lighthearted nature, Roy had a gift for bringing joy to others. His playful jokes and famous catchphrases were a source of endless laughter. He was also a master in the kitchen, particularly when it came to barbecuing, where his culinary skills were legendary. His passion for life extended to his love for the Houston Texans and Astros, and his rallying cries of "Let it roll" and "Get it done!" captured his determination and enthusiasm.
Roy's greatest legacy was the love he shared with his family. He never missed an opportunity to express how much they meant to him, and his words continue to bring warmth and smiles to their faces. In his memory, we cherish some of his well-loved sayings:
• "Shut tha and get tha."
• "We'll see."
• "Get it over with."
• "It's gonna hurt me more than it's gonna hurt you."
• "Cut it out, I say."
• "Ain't nothing wrong with that."
• "I reckon."
• "Don't tell me too much."
Roy Díaz was a man who lived with purpose, humor, and an unshakable love for his family. His strength, warmth, and dedication will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit continues to guide and inspire us, reminding us of the power of love and family.
