ROLAND NEAL BUBBA GUTHIER

Roland Neal Bubba Guthier was born, July 9, 1945, in Houston, Texas, the first of five children of Roland James Gus Guthier and Estaleen Esther Haas Guthier. He died on December 3rd at the Gulf Health Care Center in Texas City from complications of a severe stroke he suffered last August. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his four siblings: Douglas Guthier and wife, Mary Lee, of Galveston Cameron Guthier and wife, Christie, of Texas City Deborah Guthier of Texas City and Nathan Guthier of Richmond, Texas. Also left to grieve his passing are his niece, Catherine Guthier Kelley, husband, Jeremy, and their children, Liam and Brennan and his nephew, Cameron Guthier II, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Neal attended public schools in Texas City and was a 1963 graduate of Texas City High School and attended Alvin Junior College. For over forty years, he was the chief cook at Gus Barbecue in Texas City. He was a lifelong Lutheran, attending Memorial Lutheran Church in Texas City, and most recently, First Lutheran Church in Galveston. He was a major football enthusiast in his younger years but, later in life, he discovered the joy of learning and enjoyed watching television programs of a more educational nature. He retired in 2007 for health reasons, but was able to make the trip of his lifetime to Germany last spring. Neal was a kind and generous person, with a childlike faith, and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, December 6th, 11 a.m. until service time at 1p.m., at Emken Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett Lowry Expressway in Texas City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church in Texas City or First Lutheran Church in Galveston.
