Rita Casella

Loving mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother Rita F Casella passed away on November 10, 2012. She was born in Louisville KY on August 1, 1927, and graduated from the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy high school in 1944. She worked for Bell Telephone Company in Louisville until she married Ray Casella in 1952, and they relocated to Texas.
She is preceded in death by her mother Louise Faesenmeier and wonderful husband of 47 years Ray Casella. Rita was a stay at home mom with many different jobs, including cook, nurse and chauffer. She was a member of St Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic church, which was an important part of her life. She was active in the Altar Society St Monicas Group, Society of St Vincent DePaul and several prayer groups. She was a volunteer for the HOSTS program, in which she helped elementary school children learn to read. One of her hobbies was Brazilian Embroidery, and she was a member of the Brazilian Embroidery Guild. Rita also enjoyed a little gambling and making trips to Coushatta from time to time with the Knights of Columbus Council to play the slot machines. She also enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends.
Survivors include her son Raymond Casella and his wife Elena, son Michael Casella, daughter Mary Dauphine and her husband Ludger and daughter Anne Casella. Grandchildren Nicole Duckett and her husband Derek, Aimee OCallaghan, Jonathan Casella, Matthew Casella and Andrew Casella. Great grandchildren Luke Duckett and Blake Duckett.
Visitation will be Tuesday November 13, 2012 between 5:00pm and 7:00pm with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00pm at Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am Wednesday November 14 at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 1604 9th Ave North, Texas City, Texas with Father Tom Ponzini officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Casella, Matthew Casella, Derek Duckett, David Norris, Robert Dahl and Herb Sauer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
The family of Rita Casella would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at Mainland Center Hospital for their dedication and hard work throughout our mothers sudden and unexpected illness. We want to especially thank her friends from St Marys for their calls, visits and well wishes.
