Regina Ann Carroll Evoritt, 74, of Conroe, Texas, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at her niece's home in Texas City, Texas.
Regina "Gina" was born December 24, 1949, in Montogomery County Hospital, Conroe, Texas.
Over the years she worked in the insurance, legal, education, library, and banking fields, and returned to teaching for the last 26 years of her career. She worked for Roy Poinsett and Company in Conroe; Firestone Chemical and Latex company in Orange; James Crane, attorney; Montgomery County Library; taught English at Trinity Junior High School where she replaced two veteran teachers in her first teaching job in 1972 immediately after graduating from Sam Houston State University. After that assignment she left teaching for 7 years and worked at Capital National Bank in downtown Houston for 4.5 years becoming the first secretary to be named a Correspondent Bank officer. She left banking to earn her Master of Education in 1977 from the University of Houston. She was hired by Alief High School as a business teacher and eventually a computer technology teacher as the computer industry expanded from typewriters to higher technology.
Gina openly shared her love for Christ and witnessed to others about her daily walk of faith. She especially felt Christ's presence during some of her favorite vacations in the mountains of the United States and Canada. Second only to the lord, Gina loved her family and treasured the many family celebrations. Gina said, "I thank God for the welcoming home of Cissie and D.R. Lumpkin where we have been encouraged to sit out on their porch and take a deep cleansing breath of fresh air while renewing our tired spirits and grieving hearts and absorbing the purest sounds of country family life. This is one of the best blessings the Lord Jesus Christ has given us."
Gina is preceded in death by her fiancé Ben Potter, by her parents Leon and Lousie Carroll, her husband of 34 years Jerald P. Evoritt; niece Dyann Rene Schisler; great nephew Justin Dean Schirck; and great great nephew Everett Jameson Scogin.
Gina is survived by her sister Bettie Lousie Lumpkin and husband Dell Ray Lumpkin; niece Trina Marie Regan and Husband Randy; niece Dell Elizabeth Roach and Husband Jay; great nephews Adam Schisler, Jerrod Schirck, Roland Schisler and wife Kayla; great niece Kristina Scogin and husband Spencer; great niece Morgan Roach; and numerous great great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2024, at Emken-Linton Funeral home in Texas City, and funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m., at Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake, Texas.
Pallbearers include Randy Reagan, Jay Roach, Adam Schisler, Jerrod Schirck, Roland Schisler, and Kaden Schirck. Honorary pallbearers include Dell Ray Lumpkin, William Schisler, and Spencer Scogin. Pallbearers in memoriam include Charlie Dean Carroll, Larry Dean Lumpkin, and Justin Dean Schirck.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children in Galveston Texas or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lois Ramondetta and her team at the UTMB cancer and infusion center and Dr. Arsalan Saleem and Dr. Ahmed Khan in UTMB interventional radiology for their compassionate and professional care. We would also like to say a special thank you to her nurse Jennifer who supported her immensely during chemotherapy treatments. Lastly, we thank Chelsea and Lacey from the Hospice Care Team for their kind and supportive approach during this transition. Gina always told them that she believed hospice was heaven's waiting room.
