Raymond Gerber

Raymond Walter Gerber died peacefully on June 24, 2015 at home, with his family at his bedside. He resided in Texas City, Texas since 1956. Ray was born in Dover, Oklahoma to parents Delbert and Helen Gerber and was blessed with a loving brother, Howard.

Ray was a graduate of Oklahoma University holding both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in chemical engineering and remained an avid OU fan, watching every football game. During WWII, Ray served his country faithfully in the Naval Service. He also served in the Korean Conflict. Ray became a WWII enthusiast, reading numerous historical accounts of the War.
Ray worked for Union Carbide as a chemical engineer and later in purchasing for 40 years. However, he seemed most proud of his work at College of the Mainland, helping students of all ages and backgrounds prepare for their Graduate Equivalence Examination.

Ray was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church where he served as a teacher, Elder, and Deacon. He also served on the Texas City Zoning Commission for several years. He also enjoyed playing golf with retired friends, was an avid bridge player, and took great joy from his global travels with his wife and friends.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Shirley of 61 years with whom he would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary on June 28th. He is also survived by his two daughters, Melodee Mancuso and husband Joe, Cheryl Mitchell and husband Chris; three grandchildren, Nicholas Mancuso and his partner Jade, Callie Moore and husband Josh, Chaney Monan and husband Charlie. Ray has several family members in Oklahoma, including in-laws Max Gerber and wife Karen, Joy Yost and husband Tom; along with several caring nieces and nephews. Ray also leaves behind his two beloved pets that brought him much joy, his dog Odie and his cat Sweetie.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church of Texas City. Entombment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015 also at the First Presbyterian Church.
Pallbearers are Joe Mancuso, Chris Mitchell, Nick Mancuso, Josh Moore, Charlie Monan, and Max Gerber.
