PATRICIA M. WATSON
Patricia Vey Mullins Watson, aged 82, of Texas City, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2013, following a long illness. Pat was born in Daisetta, Texas on February 6, 1931, the youngest of three children of Thomas Watson Mullins and Hallie Mae Andrews Mullins.
Following her attendance at The Hockaday School and graduation from Southern Methodist University, Pat became a schoolteacher in her hometown of Liberty, Texas, before she relocated to Navasota for a years teaching experience. She later moved to Texas City to teach, and in 1956 she met Thomas Watson, formerly of Burton, Texas. They married in 1957 and began their family the next year with the arrival of their first son, at which point Pat put her teaching career on hold to focus on their growing family.
Pat and Tom loved raising their family in Texas City, and their annual New Years Day open house was a treasured favorite, with neighbors and friends coming and going and a different football game in every room. Her love of cooking meant that the New Year was welcomed with vegetable soup and black eyed peas for all who visited.
Pat remained at home until her youngest child entered elementary school, whereupon she resumed her teaching career. Sixth grade reading was her passion, and she took great pride in challenging her students to the highest standards of excellence. Her dedication was acknowledged when she was given the Outstanding Teacher award for Texas City ISD for the 197576 academic year.
As her children moved on to college and beyond, Pat retired in 1985, and she and Tom spent their quality together time at their lake house, enjoying their Dance Club date nights, and Pat rediscovering her love of bridge by joining not one but four separate clubs. Opportunities for family reunions were always treasured, whether at their Camp Creek retreat, or later in family vacations to Galveston, Florida, or Colorado, as well as holidays at their Texas City home.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas Edward Watson, and sister Billy Blanche Mullins Chambers. She is survived by son John Thomas Watson and his wife Kimberly of Houston, TX son William Mullins Watson and his wife Teri of Baton Rouge, LA daughter Karen Watson Batte of Beaumont, TX grandchildren Robert Fischer Watson Allison Anne Batte Andrew William Watson Kristen Claire Batte Madelyn Marie Batte Olivia Grace JiaWun Watson Sophia Marie JieLing Watson and greatgrandson Micah Robert Watson.
