Patricia Baker

Patricia Ann Baker, 79, of Texas City, passed away November 17, 2016 at Clear Lake Regional Hospital.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Galveston Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.

Patricia Ann Baker was born March 6, 1937 in Portsmouth, Ohio. In Portsmouth, her parents owned and operated a hotel and chili parlor / tavern named The Traveler's Inn and she grew up working with her parents and sisters as they operated the family business. With the death of her father and the sale of the business, she followed her mother and older sisters to Galveston County, Texas. In 1958, while working in an island diner, she met her future husband, merchant seaman Elmer Baker. Elmer courted her with letters from abroad for two years before she finally agreed to marry him on December 30, 1960 in Galveston, Texas. They would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this December.

Patricia was a dedicated parent to her three children, providing unconditional love and support to her family, but especially to her two daughters who suffered trying medical conditions and required special needs care. Everyone that knew Patricia testifies to her strength and dedication to her family. In 1994, Elmer and Patricia transitioned into their retirement years by becoming grandparents and began watching what would begin as one, but would eventually become their three granddaughters for the next two decades. She attended nearly every school function and was an active part in their daily lives. She taught them how to cook meals from scratch, bargain hunt and appreciate the past by bringing it back to life with stories and accounts from her life and family history. Still grieving from the loss of her beloved husband the week before, she managed to smile whenever a loved one walked into the room, all the way up until the end, when her broken heart failed.

She is survived by her son Steven Elmer Baker, daughter-in-law Tiffany Baker, granddaughters Brooke Savannah Baker, Brianna Paige Baker and Brittany Michelle Baker. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Baker (who passed away on November 5th, 2016) and her two beloved daughters, Kimberly Sue Baker and Laura Leah Baker.
