Ozelle Hampton Sawyer was born on December 14, 1925 to the late Richard Floyd Hampton and Vivian Lee Girldine Cary Hampton in El Dorado, Ark. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in El Dorado, Ark. and moved her membership to Texas City Chapter 626. Ozelle was a retired school teacher who never missed a chance to educate the youth that she surrounded herself with. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Southern State in Magnolia, Ark. and her Masters Degree from Texas AI in Kingsville, Tx. She started her teaching career in Arkansas and finished in Texas retiring from Santa Fe ISD.
She is preceded in death by her parents her husband of 44 years, Isaac Jackson Sawyer her brother Troyce Hampton her sister Alta Jo Lyles her brotherinlaw Columbus Vines and sisterinlaw Ezel Vines.
She is survived by her son Boyd Jackson Sawyer and wife Lennie of Texas City, TX daughter Myra Sawyer OSteen and husband Mike of Texas City, TX four grandchildren Dain Jackson Sawyer of Lake Jackson, TX, Ashley OSteen Allen and husband Brent, Derrick Wayne OSteen, and Brittany Ann OSteen all of Texas City, TX one great granddaughter Kaitlyn Nicole Allen Texas City, TX sisterinlaw Vivian Hampton of Magnolia, Ark. brotherinlaw Z. T. Lyles of Hagerman, New Mexico and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held on December 19, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at EmkenLinton Funeral Home in Texas City, TX. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Magnolia Memorial Park in Magnolia, Ark.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bayou Pines Care Center and special friends, Janice Vincent and Vicki Dillon for their kindness and devotion to their loved one.
