Norman Klibert

NORMAN JOSEPH KLIBERT

Norman Joseph Klibert, beloved husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather, passed away peacefully in Sugar Land, Texas on April 8th, 2014 at the age of 97. Norman was born in Reserve, Louisiana on December 26, 1916, the third of seven children of Leoncia and Theogene Klibert.

Norman graduated from Reserve High School where he was a very successful boxer for his school team. It was while living in Reserve that he met Shirley Bienvenu of nearby Gramercy. They married on November 6, 1942 and soon after Norman began his service in World War II. He served in the 80th Infantry Armored Division in the European Theatre returning home in October of 1945.

Upon his return from the war, Norman began to work for the U.S. Department of the Treasury: Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. During his tenure with the ATF, Norman was transferred to Longview. Texas. It was here that he joined the Knights of Columbus and after a few years became the Grand Knight.

In 1966, he was transferred to Texas City, Texas, where he and Shirley lived for approximately 42 years. In retirement, Norman enjoyed volunteering and serving St Mary of the Miraculous Medal Church in Texas City, the Knights of Columbus, Council 5236, in LaMarque, and the Texas CityLaMarque Chamber of CommerceGolden Division. Norman was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly rooting for the LSU Tigers and the Houston Astros. He enjoyed playing
cards, fishing, and traveling.

Norman was preceded in death by his dearly loved wife Shirley and his parents, brothers Hewitt Klibert, Carl Klibert and Adrian Klibert, sisters Vivian Clouatre and Agnes Lloyd, and son in law Stuart Foster. He is survived by his sister Simone Fricke. Also surviving him are his children Sharon and Glenn Widener, Bryan Klibert, Gaylin and Terry Soderstrom, Jeffrey and Robin Klibert, Kerry Klibert, Randy and Tami Klibert, Susan Klibert, and Julie and Jeffrey Moore. Papa Boones grandchildren are Kimberly Piwonka, Michelle DeBow, Stephanie Pruneda, Matthew Foster, Cory Foster, Daniel Klibert, Kelly Tulacz, Ryan Klibert, Marcus Klibert, Christian Moore and Shane Moore. His great grandchildren are Megan and Sydney Piwonka, Jack and Morgan DeBow, William and Brooklyn Pruneda, Brent Klibert and Zoey Foster.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 68 p.m. on Thursday, April 10th at EmkenLinton Funeral Home in Texas City with Deacon Sam DellOlio presiding. A funeral Mass celebrating Normans life will be held at 12 noon on Friday, April 11th at St Mary of the Miraculous Medal in Texas City with Fr Tom Ponzini officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East in Webster.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all of the caregivers at Barton House in Sugar Land for their loving attention to Norman over the past year. Great thanks are also extended to Cheryl Haley for being a special friend and comfort to Norman. The family is eternally grateful for their devotion and tireless, kind help.
