Neva Ruth Etheredge, 92, passed away at home June 7, 2013, after a brief illness.
Services will be led by Rev. Rick Atkinson and Cindy Riddick at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Emken Linton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Emken Linton.
Pallbearers will be W.T. Tommy Etheredge, IV W.T. Bill Etheredge III Gregory McCarthy Todd Ronnau and son Chase honorary Dwayne Stokes and M.O. Vance, Jr.
She was born December 31, 1920, the daughter of Maggie and E.E. Blackshear of Houston. She graduated from Milby High School, where she met W.T. Dub Etheredge, Jr., her high school sweetheart. They married June 29, 1940, and moved to Texas City in 1949.
She and Dub started Dubs Boats and Motors on Texas Avenue in 1949. Later, they sold out and entered the real estate business in 1971. They opened a Century 21 franchise in 1974. Neva was a multimillion dollar seller many times over, won many awards, and kept her Brokers license through 1995. She loved real estate.
Neva loved to cook for a crowd and was happiest cooking for all her family. She was best known for her homemade chicken n dumplings and fried shrimp. After retirement, she and Dub traveled many miles in their motorhome with friends, wearing out three motorhomes in the process. She loved to shop with her girls. She and Dub sailed from their home on Moses Lake around all of Galveston Bay. She collected Andres birds and dolls as a pastime. Dub bought her a constant companion: a little black poodle named Tyler, who never left her side.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 68 years, W.T. Dub Etheredge, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ruth Medley of Tyler son, W.T. Bill Etheredge, III, and wife, Carol, of Texas City granddaughter Sherri Ruth McCarthy and husband, Greg, of Arlington granddaughter Shelbi T. Ronnau and husband, Todd, of Sachse grandson W.T. Tommy Etheredge, IV, of Texas City great granddaughter Ashley McCarthy Evenson and husband, Blake, of Sachse Kelley McCarthy of Arlington, TX great grandchildren Makenzi and Chase Ronnau of Sachse and nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the best caregivers God could furnish: Pam Burke, Trish Hibbler and Jennifer Tabor, for their kind and loving care of our mother over the past several years.
