Michael Ling, Sr.

Michael was born in Silsbee, TX to Wallace Ling and Martha Smith. He was raised by in grandparents in Kountze, TX until he was 10 when he then moved to Port Bolivar, TX where he attended school, made life-long friends, and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with his best friend V.D. Kahla. Michael returned to Port Bolivar from his enlistment with a world of travels. While in serving he earned two Bronze Star Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, two Purple Hearts, one National Defense Service Medals, two Vietnam Service Medals, one Vietnam Campaign Medal, one Presidential Unit Citation, one Valorous Unit Award, and one Meritorious Unit Citation for his bravery in combat. The day of his return he would have a chance meeting with a girl that he would love the rest of his life, Ginger Beth Schultz. Michael and Ginger had a love that lasted for better and worse, in sickness and in health. A love so strong that Michael decided to go be with his bride on the morning of July 10, 2015, their 45th anniversary. The best anniversary gift a devoted husband could give.

Michael is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Ginger Beth Schultz Ling, mother Martha Smith, brother, George Reed, sister Alice Genussa, brother Kenny Ling, and mother-in-Law Bessie Schultz.

Michael is survived by his father Wallace Ling and wife Billye, of Alaska; children Tammy Bage and husband Steven, Gerri (Micky) Alfaro and husband Arthur, Michael I. Ling, Jr. and wife Jessica all of Texas City, and Wesley Ling of Port Bolivar. His brothers Clyde William Reed, Morgan (Mugs) Smith, and sister Brenda Smith from Winnie. Brothers Irby Ling and Orval Ling; sisters Sandra Waldroup and Jayne Shearer all from Alaska. His grandchildren Sarah Jones, Brandon Bage, Breanna Bage, Brandi Alfaro, Michael Alfaro, Brandon Essex, Brooke Essex, and Alex Sharp; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His favorite cousins Buddy and Angie from Kountze, and his little dog Yo-Yo.

Michael was a great father, pawpaw, brother, and friend. He was a giving and loving man who never met a stranger and was never too busy to lend a hand, give you a loan and shared every possession he had. He loved with his whole heart and soul. Michael is twice retired as a heavy equipment operator first from Galveston County and then from Kelso.
A celebration of Michael's life, with military honors, is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Port Bolivar, TX at 10:00 a.m. There will be lunch available following at the Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Station.

Visitors for the service from the Galveston side please ask the Ferry attendants for special priority boarding privileges in regards to the Michael Ling services.
