Maxie Westerfield, age 68, died December 20, 2011. He was born December 19, 1943 to Maxie E. and Beverly Westerfield. After the death of his father, he was adopted by Conard Kay Womble, who raised him from the age of 12.
Max attended school in Helena, Arkansas, and later graduated from Lake Charles Louisiana High School.
He studied Engineering at Louisiana State University. He joined the U.S. Army, and served in Viet Nam as an M.P., and was active during the Tet Offensive. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1970.
Max worked several years for the Dupont Corporation.
Max Westerfield was President of the Texas Offshore Performance Powerboat Squadron TOPPS for 8 years and was one of the founding charter members. Max was always quick with a smile and his sharp wit to both friends and strangers alike. He was instrumental in the growth of the club from its infancy and was a wonderful Good Will Ambassador for TOPPS. Max was a good friend to the famous late oil well firefighter Red Adair and his contributions to TOPPS will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mike Westerfield. Survivors include one brother, Ronnie Westerfield, and many close friends.
Max will be missed by all who knew him.
