Matthew Russel Gorom, 40, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 28, 2020 in Deer Park, Texas.
Matt’s wife Rebecca will be hosting services for Matt 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. All are welcome.
Matt’s family, along with his parents Mike and Luanne Gorom, will celebrate his life 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2020 at The Fellowship of Texas City at 2222 N. State Hwy 146. The Gorom family invites all of Matt’s friends to join in the celebration.
Matt was born on July 12, 1979 in Abbeville, Louisiana. The Gorom family moved to Texas City in 1989, where Matt soon got involved in baseball and football. Matt was a natural-born leader, which resulted in him being nominated by his teammates to be the captain of the 1997 Texas City High School football team, who won the Class 4A state Championship his senior year. Matt made his life-long friends during this season of life.
After beginning his college career at Sam Houston State University, Matt graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. For the past decade, Matt enjoyed a rewarding career as a Safety specialist in the oil and gas field. Whether at work, on a team, or with his friends, one of Matt’s greatest gifts was his ability to inspire and motivate everyone around him, to bring them together for a common goal. But Matt’s pride and joy, was and will always be his 13-year-old daughter, Nevaeh Grace. Together, they have been involved in church activities, youth sports and enjoyed vacationing with family on the beach in Florida.
Matt is survived by his wife, Rebecca; daughter Nevaeh Gorom, stepchildren Anthony Garcia and Sierra Martinez; his parents, Mike and Luanne Gorom, his four siblings, and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Rebecca and Matt dated for a year in 2014. Matt proposed to Rebecca, bought a house, and got married in 2015.
Flowers may be sent to Emken Linton Funeral home, but in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that friends please consider donating to a GoFundMe in honor of Matt’s daughter Nevaeh.
