Mary Calvert Middagh Hunter was born on January 22nd, 1925 in Lawrenceville, Illinois and went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 10th, 2016 in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of ninety-one.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Randal Calhoun Hunter. She was also preceded by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Middagh, Sr. of Texas City, two brothers, William Fowler Middagh and John Judy Middagh, Jr., a sister Frances Elizabeth Stovall, a granddaughter Rebecca Elizabeth Wood and a great-granddaughter Madeleine Grey Wood. She is survived by two daughters Deborah Lucille Potthoff (husband Richard "Dick" Potthoff) and Karen Rebecca Wood (husband Rodney Wood), seven grandchildren, Kalyn Ferrell (husband Clifton), Ginny Duncan (husband Tim Page), Matthew Duncan (wife Maleah), Jake Wood (wife Ashley), Jim Wood (wife Amelia), and John Wood (wife Kelly), and seventeen great-grandchildren: John, Matthew, Jacob, Raya, Santi, Nala, Ransom, Elizabeth, Mary Page, Myles, Norah Catherine, John Isaac, Lucy Bea, Josiah, Rebecca Blythe, Luke, and Ambrose. Mrs. Hunter greatly loved, and was much loved by, each member of her family.
Mrs. Hunter, who was a great patriot, was a member of the George Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She proudly bore the name of her well remembered ancestors the Calvert family of Maryland. She was also one of the founding members of St. John's United Methodist Church in Texas City, Texas.
When Mrs. Hunter was a child, she and her family moved to Odessa, Texas where she later graduated from high school. Then during the course of her adult years, she and her husband lived in a number of states as well as in Europe and The Middle East. She also very much enjoyed traveling to many places throughout the world.
The funeral service will be held at Dickinson United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 19th, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Jack Matkin will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Matthew Duncan, Clifton Ferrell, John Ferrell, Jacob Wood, James Wood, and John Wood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to New Braunfels First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
