Mary Louise Cantini Giamfortone passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Mary Louise was born on October 23, 1932, in Galveston, Texas, to Giulio Cantini and Irene Del Buono Cantini, in their home. She grew up in Galveston and was a lifelong resident of Galveston County, residing in La Marque, Texas since 1964.
She attended Galveston Public Schools earlier in life. She made her First Communion at St. Patrick’s Church and then attended Ursuline Academy from 1945 to 1950 where she graduated from high school. She was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque where she served as a lector for many years. She was a member of the Ursuline Alumnae, the Julia Circle, the Queen of Peace Ladies Guild, the Red Hat Ladies, and several bunco and canasta groups. She founded The Galveston County Aggies Mothers Club in 1977 and served as the president several times and was a dedicated member. She was an avid Texas Aggie Fan. She always said she bled maroon. She also served as the Secretary for The Federation of Aggie Moms. She proudly flew her Texas Aggie flag every Saturday during football season. She was made an honorary member of the Friendswood/Clear Lake Area Aggie Moms Club in 2007.
Mary Louise was full of love for God, the Blessed Mother, her Country, and her family, relatives and friends. She had a special zest for life. She never met a stranger and was friendly to everyone she met. She had a passion for cooking and sharing her goodies and recipes with her family and friends. You were one of the lucky ones if you were the recipient of her lemon meringue pie or cheesecake.
Mary Louise was preceded in death by her loving and devote husband, Andrew Joseph Giamfortone, who passed away on October 24, 2005, and her beloved ‘Aggie’ son, Mark Andrew Giamfortone, who passed away on November 30, 2005, her sisters Lillian Rourke and Dolores Schreier, brother Clarence Cantini, and her parents.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her three loving daughters and sons-in-laws, Kathy Giamfortone Brooks and husband David Brooks of Hewitt, Texas, Andrea Giamfortone Wilson and husband Henry Wilson of Webster, Texas, Maria Giamfortone Manzo of Leander, Texas, beloved daughter-in-law, Laura Giamfortone of Friendswood, Texas, wonderful grandchildren, whom she loved and adored, Matthew Brooks (and wife Brady) of Glasgow, Montana, Andrew Wilson (and wife Faith) of Webster, Texas, Louisa Giamfortone of Friendswood, Texas, Sam Giamfortone (and wife McKenna) of Friendswood, Texas, and Joseph Manzo (and wife Ashley) of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, and greatgrandchildren, Bridger and Houston Brooks and Frances, Georgie Belle, and Sylvie Lou Giamfortone, and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and cherished friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 1224 Cedar Dr. La Marque, Texas. 10:00 AM – Visitation, 10:35 AM – Mass with reception to follow at the Parish Life Center.
Memorials may be made to the 12th Man Foundation at Texas A&M University in memory of her son, Mark Giamfortone, P. O. Box 2800 College Station, TX 77841-2800, the Ursuline Sisters 353 South Sappington, St. Louis MO 63122, or to a charity of your choice.
