Mary Margaret McCorkle Doyle passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in Fairfield, California. She was 85 years old. Mary Margaret was born February 4, 1928 in Akron, Ohio to Bessie Mae Jones and Dr. Walker E. McCorkle.
She is survived by her two sons, Donald of Fairfield, California and his wife Tracy, and John of Texas City, Texas and his girlfriend Janis King, her granddaughters Holly Strickland and her husband Robert, Megan Doyle, Morgan Doyle and her fianc Andrew Scott as well as many lifelong friends in Texas City. She was preceded in death by her husband Dan, her brother and sister in law, Dr. Robert and Shirley McCorkle.
Mary graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelors degree. She began her masters degree at the University of Colorado where she met and married Donald Dan Doyle. She subsequently completed her masters degree in economics at the University of Houston. After marriage Mary and Dan moved to Shreveport, LA where their first son Donald was born. A job transfer brought Mary and Dan to Texas City, TX where their second son John was born.
Mary began a career in education that spanned four decades as a high school teacher. Her dedication to education left a lifelong impression on both her students and their families. She was involved in many aspects of her community serving on the board of directors for the College of the Mainland, Rotary, senior class advisor for TCHS, as well as her church.
Following her retirement from education, Mary and Dan moved to Coronado, California where she enjoyed many hours on the golf course and walking the beach. She loved to travel and was ready to go anywhere in a moments notice.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Friday, January 10, 2014 at EmkenLinton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City, TX. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to The American Diabetes Association.
