Marie Kathryn Gordy-Gundermann Bessire, 84, of Texas City, departed this life to be with her heavenly father on Friday, March 20, in Texas City
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, at First Baptist Church in Texas City, with Dr. Robert Miller and Pastor Rod Anderson (Marie's grandson) officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East in Webster. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, March 23, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Marie Kathryn Gordy-Gundermann Bessire was a direct descendant of The Campbell Pioneer family of Texas City and The Gordy Pioneer Family of Bacliff. She was born on June 8, 1930 in Galveston. Marie married her lifelong companion Julius Carlton (JC) Bessire, Jr. on November 27, 1952. Together they built a life and raised three daughters in Texas City. She was a devout Christian, loving wife, caring mother and adoring "maw-maw" of 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and her yard was admired by many including strangers driving down 8th Avenue.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eudora Gordy-Gundermann and John Frederick Gundermann; husband, JC Bessire, Jr. and sister, Ila Rae Saltz.
Marie will be missed by her cherished family of daughters; Gwen Eversole and husband Clay, Dale Fourcade and husband Paul and Juli Sullivan and husband Dean; brothers, Paul Gundermann and wife Glenda and Fred Gundermann and wife Barbara; sister-in-laws, Beth Reed and husband Billy Tom and Billie Bessire; brother-in-law, Jay Horn; granddaughters, Shana Anderson and husband Rod, Stephanie Reetz and husband Blake, Tara Sullivan, Taylor Sullivan and Katie Eversole; grandsons, Joshua Eversole, Matthew Fourcade and Jacob Eversole and wife Whitney; great grandchildren, Bailey Anderson, Lucas Reetz and Coy Eversole; lifelong friends, Verna Childs and Willie Mae Hazzard; numerous nieces, nephews and many many family and friends.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and brothers, Blake Reetz, Joshua Eversole, Jacob Eversole, Matthew Fourcade, Paul Gundermann and Fred Gundermann. Honorary pallbearer will be Johnny Gundermann.
