Monday, July 17, 2023, Lula “Mae” Singletary, 91, passed away peacefully and swiftly at HCA Clear Lake. Her daughter-in-law, Chris, was by her side.
Mae was born in Texas City, TX to Carl Ruby King and Bessie Miles as the youngest of 4 children. Growing up with 3 older brothers kept her busy and one of her favorite things to do was to spend long summer days at the cinema.
Mae had a long career with Entex, retiring as an Office Manager. She was a long-time member of the congregation of St. George’s Episcopal in Texas City. In retirement, she had many hobbies with painting, piano, sewing, and embroidery keeping her busy. She made the most beautiful purses and accessories and even most of her clothing. She was very active and very talented, even at 91 years of age!
Mae was a devout Texas City High School Football Fan (Go Stings!), holding season pass tickets for almost 70 years! Her dedication only wavering slightly as her youngest grandson plays football at First Baptist Christian Academy. She did her best to get to every game and practice that she could and was looking forward to this season!
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bessie; brothers, Bob, Eddie and William; her first husband, William Henry (father of her son) and second husband Frank; as well as her grandson, Larry Wayne. She is survived by her son, Robert (Chris); Grandsons, Tony (Tracy), Michael, and Spencer; and great grandchildren, Ryan, Emily and John.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Seabrook.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FBCA Football Fund:
