Louis H. Ballard, 91, a longtime resident of Texas City, passed away Friday, August 14, 2105 in Austin, Texas after a brief illness.

Visitation for friends and family will be held at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A celebration of Lou's life will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church in Texas City on Saturday, August 22, 2015 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Forest Park East in League City.

Lou was born February 23, 1924 in Sumner, Mississippi to Otho and Mabel Ballard. Lou's family moved to Starkville, Mississippi, and he graduated from Starkville High School in 1942. He then enrolled in Mississippi State University, majoring in chemical engineering. In 1943, Lou entered the USAF and graduated from Navigation School in 1944. He flew 25 missions in WWII as lead navigator on a B-17 Flying Fortress with the 8th Air Force, gaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

After the war, Lou returned to Starkville to complete his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering at Mississippi State University in 1948. He married Nellie (Daisy) Morgan of Starkville on August 25, 1946. Lou and Daisy moved to Austin, Texas where Lou earned his M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas in 1951. Lou and Daisy moved to Texas City in 1951 where they became active members of St. George's Episcopal Church. Lou went to work for Monsanto Chemical Company and retired after 35 years as a chemical engineer. Daisy preceded Lou in death in 2013, and Lou moved to Austin in 2014 to be able to spend time with his daughter and her family.

Lou is survived by his daughter, Carol Rosser and her husband Steve, grandson Matthew Rosser, sisters-in law Catherine Husmann and Frances Langerfeld, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. George's Episcopal Church, 510 13th Avenue North, Texas City, Texas 77590, the Salvation Army, or the Wounded Warriors Project.
