Lou Ellen Wells Calhoun of Texas City went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the age of 87.
Mrs. Calhoun was born on September 11, 1924 in Saratoga, Texas, to Wyatt and Lola Wells.
She and her husband, R. L. Calhoun owned the Palmer Highway Cleaners and the OK Cleaners in Texas City for several years. Mrs. Calhoun loved baking and received endless orders for her delicious pies and cakes. Her chocolate pies and banana pudding were enjoyed by the members of New Life Fellowship formerly Heights Baptist Church. She served the Lord in the church for many years.
Mrs. Calhoun was preceded in death by her parents, her brother R. Q. Wells, and by her beloved husband who went to be with the Lord in 1985.
She leaves behind the following survivors to cherish her memory:
Sons, R. L. Calhoun and wife Ruth of Dickinson, Steve Calhoun and wife Kay of Texas City, Jim Calhoun and wife Cheryl of Wharton daughters, Rose Beanland and husband Dale of Santa Fe, and Brenda Gregorcyk and husband Mike of Texas City twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Calhoun is also survived by her sisters Gerry Cook of Baytown, Betty Holbrook and husband Bruce of Dayton. She leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces plus a host of friends and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at New Life Fellowship, 2700 Texas Avenue, Texas City, Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. at the church. Internment will take place at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster following the service.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Mainland Center Hospital, Baywind Village Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, and Faith Community Hospice for the care they provided for our loved one.
