Loretta Weber Powell, 90, of Texas City, Texas passed away Monday, December 18, 2023.
Loretta was born in Good Hope, Louisiana on February 13, 1933, to Louis and Carrie Weber. Loretta graduated high school in Corpus Christi, Texas, and then attended Southwest Texas State University. Loretta moved with her family to Texas City, Texas and began working in the payroll department at Amoco Oil Co. While working at Amoco, she met the love of her life, William Shelby (Bill) Powell. They were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Texas City, TX on April 21, 1956.
Loretta is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Louis and Carrie Weber; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Frances Weber, and daughter-in-law, Janet Powell.
She is survived by her children, Shelby Powell and Donna Trosclair, Paul Powell and wife Donna, Alan Powell and wife Nicole; grandchildren, Lauren Powell, Morgan McCarter and husband Daryn, Camryn Powell, Emma Powell, and Caroline Powell; great grandchildren, Sterling Sigue, Callan McCarter, Slade McCarter, and Tatum Sigue.
Loretta’s greatest joys were her family, cooking, and vacation cruises during retirement.
Pallbearers will be Shelby, Paul, Alan Powell, Daryn McCarter, Steve Gore, Bobby Desanto and Chuck Horne.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a rosary immediately following at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church. A burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
The family would like to thank Irene Johnson, a long-time family care provider and friend who cared for Loretta’s husband Bill, along with her parents and brother. Loretta wishes to acknowledge Irene, Marcia Wesley, and Sandy Wenze specifically, as they were constant companions during her time of need.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Cure SMA.
