Lois Alene Castanie, 90, passed away July 19, 2016, in Cedar Park, Texas.
Born February 9, 1926, in Iowa Colony, Texas to Anna Mae and Henry McCauley. Lois spent the majority of her life in Texas City. She attended Texas City schools and was active in the Drum and Bugle Corps, Bluebonnet Girls State, and was a Central High School cheerleader and homecoming queen candidate. She was well known for her dancing ability and performed with a USO group during the early part of WWII, entertaining at military bases and hospitals.
In 1943, she married the love of her life, Roland Castanie who was serving in the Navy. At the end of the war they returned to Texas City to raise their children Roland II, Charmaine and Colleen. Lois was involved in every aspect of her children's lives. Whether found at a ball game or dance recital, sewing dance costumes or being a scout leader, Lois was always involved and cheering for her kids. As a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Texas City and active within her community, Lois made an impact on so many. She was involved with Our Lady of Fatima School, the Alter Society, Historical Foundation, TCISD Foundation for the Future, Garden Club, Civic Club and Hospice. After her children were grown, Roland began to work overseas, allowing them to travel and make friends all over the world.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna McCauley, sisters, Doris Sledge and Betty Hersey, husband Roland Sr., grandson Marcus Johnson and sons in law, Terry Leisch and Randy Yancey. She is survived by her sister, Sharon Gordy, son Roland Castanie, II, and wife Peggy, daughters Charmaine Yancey and Colleen Leisch. Her grandchildren include Monique Castanie (Ronnie Lawrence), Roland (Cass) Castanie, III, and wife Sarah, Aimee Hutton (Michael Robinson), Jeremy Triplett and wife Angela, Kristin Kaminski (Rene Hernandez), and Ryan Triplett, all of Austin. Great-grandchildren include Hailee Hutton, Brightyn and Konnor Patterson, Evan and Logan Price and Jacob and Alaina Triplett, all of Austin. She was dearly loved by her nieces, nephews and extended family. Special mention must be made of her lifelong and dearest friend Deanie Weatherall.
Visitation will be at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City from 4:00-5:00pm Sunday, July 24, for family. We invite friends to join us to share memories of Lois from 5:00-7:00pm. A rosary will follow at 7:00pm. The funeral service will be at 10:00am, Monday at Emken-Linton, with internment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.
