Linda Lee Surratt, 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2015. She was born in Houston, Texas at St. Joseph's hospital, on July 31, 1940, to Mary Olive and George Benson Doyle. She graduated from Steven F. Austin High School in 1958. Linda then went on to attend Steven F. Austin University where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Surratt. They were married in 1961. She was blessed with two sons, Kenneth Gaylon and Taylor George shortly after.
Linda began teaching in 1963 and was very active in the thespians. She was a long time member of ADK, and enjoyed their monthly meetings. She also assisted with the Rebel Little League Drill team for many years. Linda was active at St. George's Episcopal Church teaching Sunday school, sponsoring the youth at EYC and cooking for the poor. She was also a very active member of the Vestry and helped cook for the church anytime she was needed. Linda was the Team Mom for over ten years when her boys played in Little League.
Linda retired from Texas City High School in 1994 after 31 years of teaching. She made many good friends and taught several generations of students. Linda was loved by her fellow teachers, faculty and students. When she would go to the store or to eat, there would always be someone that would come by to say hello and reminisce about their time with her at the High School.
Linda enjoyed traveling and cruising the Caribbean. She was always very lucky when she went to the casinos. She enjoyed life to its fullest and found the humor in every situation. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Linda Surratt was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Gaylon Surratt Sr. and her parents, Mary Olive and George Benson Doyle.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Kenneth Gaylon Surratt Jr. and Taylor George Surratt; daughter-in-law April Surratt; and grandchildren, Kailee Sue Surratt, Taylor George Surratt Jr., Holly Kaitlyn Surratt, Tyler Joseph Surratt, Taryn Nichole Surratt, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her memorial service will be held, Friday, June 12, 2015, 10:00am at St. George's Episcopal Church, 510 13th Street North, Texas City, Texas 77590. Visitation and lunch will follow the service. She will be buried at Forest Park Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, Texas 77023 later that afternoon.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to St. George's Episcopal Church.
