Librada “Lila” Calderon,91, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Memorial services will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2021, with a visitation at 10:30 a.m., and rosary to follow at 11:00 a.m., at St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church at 10503 Westheimer Rd, Houston, Texas 77042.

Lila, as she was known to most, was born June 13, 1930, in San Juan de Rio Seco, Colombia. She was the youngest of 11 children and moved from the family farm to Bogota at an early age to build a better future.

She was hard working and valued her education. Lila overcame countless obstacles and built a successful career as a nutritionist. Lila was part of the first cohort to graduate from Javeriana University with a degree in nutrition and went to obtain her Master’s in Public Health. She was a well-known and respected professional in her field, contributing to many programs throughout Colombia.

In 1981, Lila retired early to follow her children, and start a new life in Texas. Here she continued to spread her knowledge. She always said, “La salud está en la muela,” or “Your health is in what you eat.” She taught Spanish classes, became the, “madrina” of the early years of the Ballet Folclorico de Colombia in Houston, taught herself to paint, and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She excelled in everything she did with an attitude of, “I can and I will.” She was a loving and faithful mother. She loved everyone and demonstrated her unshakeable faith by the way she lived her life. She was a brilliant woman, who was a diligent and organized  planner. All who knew her will remember her unique sense of humor.

Lila leaves a strong legacy of faith, love, and perseverance. In the end, she faithfully accomplished God’s mission for her life and now rests in our heavenly home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Lila’s favorite organizations would be appreciated.
