Lenida Flores Martinez

Lenida Flores Martinez passed away peacefully on All Souls Day, November 2, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Houston, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Pete C. Martinez, sons Pete Martinez, Jr. and Roberto Martinez, parents Phillip and Josephine Flores, sisters Mary Luz Padilla and Lydia Flores Lira, brothers Phillip Flores, Jr. and David Flores; stepsister, Irma Gonzalez.

She is survived by her three daughters, Heidi Baize and husband Andy, Sonia Vasquez and husband Alfred, Suzanne Enriquez and husband Ron; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends whom she dearly loved.

Born March 8, 1933, in Galveston, Texas, Lenida retired after 31 years of devoted service to Texas City ISD. She was a committed, lifelong member of St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Parish in Texas City, as well as a member of St. Anthony’s altar society, bereavement committee, and an avid perpetual adorer of the Blessed Sacrament.

First and foremost, Lenida was an outstanding model of a Christian wife and mother who never wavered from the vows made to her husband and entire family. Her strong faith provided a foundation in which she never forgot the need for love and forgiveness. Together with her husband, nothing ever interfered with the attention they gave the family. She cherished spending time with them and was particularly fond of attending all their special events. Her daily prayer to the Blessed Mother provided countless unknown graces to her loved ones.

You could always count on Lenida to prepare you a hot meal and feel welcomed into her home anytime. Her ability to find joy in all the little things of this world brought so much happiness to everyone. If asked what she loves doing the most, it was spending quality time with friends and family at the local taqueria!
