Lela Michell Hill

Lela Michell Hill (christened Lila Ann Michell), 63, of Texas City, passed from this life on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at her home in West Texas City while surrounded by her husband Robert, her daughters Lauren and Caitlin, granddaughter Lila, niece Holly and her beloved dog, Tina.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon prior to the service.

A celebration of Lela’s life will be held at Northside Baptist Church (2801 25th St North Texas City, TX 77590 – 409-945-4820) on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 2:00 until 3:00PM. All family and friends are invited to attend. A reception will follow immediately after her celebration.

Lela was born October 7, 1961, at 10:40AM in “Texas City Hospital”. At the time of her passing, she was officially retired from diverse occupations that included Bank Teller, Billing Clerk, Child Care, Care Giver, and Nursery Worker. Her early life was made memorable as a member of the TCHS Band and some time spent as a Cheer Leader.

Her passions were many and varied. She loved going on car rides with husband Robert and Tina (our poodle, named after Tina Turner). She loved supporting her grandsons at their many baseball games and granddaughter at her dance classes. Playing Bunco with several groups kept her busy with many friends. Going out to eat with friends and grandkids were favorite pastimes. She loved the color purple and never missed any family function, even with failing health, she'd be there. Dedicated to making each Thanksgiving special, she always cooked the family turkey. She was always thinking of everyone with only a single interruption … watching “The Young and the Restless” every weekday morning. She was always quick to volunteer whenever and wherever she could in support of her children and grandchildren at school, scouts, or any other activity. Everywhere she went, she always met someone she knew from bygone days.

She is preceded in death by her father, Tom Travis Michell and older brother, Thomas Travis Michell Jr.

Survivors include her husband Robert Hill, mother Delores (Billie) Michell, brother Steve Michell, daughters Lauren with husband Venkat Akkineni, daughter Caitlin Hill, grandchildren Landon & Ethan Hernandez, Maya & Aryan Akkineni, and young Lila Moore. Survivors must surely include a host of friends who, over the years, adopted us all into their families. Great-grandparents Amanda & Mario Hernandez, Billy Rife & guardian Elizabeth Lawson, Lela's best friends Mary Williams (and family), and Chris Nickerson, all of whom helped us through this distressing time.

Flowers, living plants, “potluck” food dishes and/or donations to the charity of your choice are all welcome. Please bring your favorite memories of Lela to share during the Memorial Service if you wish.
