JUANITA NITA FRANCES WOODS DESLATTE

Juanita Nita Deslatte, 77, of Texas City, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in Texas City.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M., Sunday, April 13, 2014 at St. Georges Episcopal Church in Texas City, the Rev. Robin Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:007:00 P.M., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at EmkenLinton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Deslatte was born September 6, 1936 in Port Arthur, Texas. She graduated in 1955 from Port NechesGroves High School. Mrs. Deslatte married her loving husband of 58 years, James Deslatte on June 1, 1955. Once married, Nita and Jim spent four exciting years traveling the country, as Jim was a United States Air Force pilot in the late fifties. They settled in Texas City in 1959 and Nita was a very active leader in the community. She was instrumental in starting the KEYS program Keep Every Youth Safe, a latch key program for children at Roosevelt Wilson Elementary School, and was a Board Member of the Texas City Day Nursery. She was active in the Galveston County Aggie Moms Club and cherished being an Aggie Mom and Wife.

Her faith in the Lord was of paramount importance to her all her days. Nita was an active member for 45 years of St. Georges Episcopal Church in Texas City, and served as the Sunday School Superintendent and on the Vestry. Nita was a member of The Red Hat Society Scarlet OHatters, the Golden Division of the Texas CityLaMarque Chamber of Commerce, the TCHS Band Booster Club, Jaycees Wives, the Hi Neighbor club, the Tuesday Lunch Brunch, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and was a Certified Honorary Cuban. During retirement, Nita and Jim enjoyed going on cruises with long time friends.

Nita was proceeded in death by her parents, Rayford and Maxine Woods stepmother, Syble Woods sister, Peggy Woods Jones brothers, Harold Woods, Bobby Woods, and Phillip Woods.

Survivors include, her loving husband, James Roy Deslatte brother, John Woods and wife Scarlett, of Bridge City, TX son, Dwayne Roy Deslatte of Phoenix, Arizona daughter, Derri Lyn Deslatte Clark and husband Tommy Clark grandchildren, Dalton Johnson, Preston Johnson, and Carson Clark many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers for the service include Robert Sobotik, Herb Wuthrich, Jose Boix, Brian Deslatte nephew, David Deslatte nephew, Donald Heard, John Beltz, and Dalton Johnson grandson. Honorary Pallbearers include Preston Johnson grandson and Carson Clark grandson.

Nitas family would like to thank Dr. Alfredo Nodarse as well as all the doctors and nurses at Mainland Medical Center who gave her such great care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Nitas honor, to St. Georges Episcopal Church in Texas City.
