Joyce Vogg Couch
Joyce Vogg Couch, 86, of Texas City, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Mainland Medical Center.
A funeral Mass is being held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2012, at the St. Marys of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City. Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2012 with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary at EmkenLinton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Mrs. Couch was born July 13, 1925 in Patterson, Louisiana. She was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. She was a member of the St. Marys of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church for over 70 years, and a member of the Catholic Daughters Court 1855 where she served a term as Regent and a member of the St. Marys Altar Society. Mrs. Couch was a member of Legion of Mary when it was organized by Father Sheffield. She was involved in Our Lady of Fatima School and a Cub Scout Den mother. She was a member of the Texas City Garden Club and the Wolvin Central High School Reunion Committee. Mrs. Couch was an employee of the Texas City Terminal Railway during the 1947 Texas City Disaster where she was severely injured. She was considered a miracle survivor of that disaster.
She is preceded in death by her birth parents, Clophas and Enola Berthelot her foster parents, Augusta and Fred Vogg two sisters, Dixie Mendoza and Sammie Lormand.
Survivors include her Husband of 61 years, Boyd Couch of Texas City Son, Michael Couch and wife Carolyn of League City Brother, Garver Watkins and wife Virgie of Morgan City, LA Sisters, Madeline Kelly and husband Tom of Portland, OR, Myrl Barousse and husband Edgar of Morgan City, LA, Patsy Hebert of Morgan City, LA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Tim Holt, Richard Hasserd, Fred Applegath, Jimmy Derden, Phil Lohec, and Edgar Barousse.
The family wants to give thanks to Deacon Joe Hensley and Frances Trepagnier for their continued spiritual support.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Ruth Gary, Henrietta Nelson, Nacale Hackney, Brenda Sowell, Kim King, and Dora Celestine, for the love, devotion, and care that was given to Mrs. Couch.
As we remember and celebrate Joyces life and faith, we are truly blessed by your presence in honoring her. Your friendships were important to her and we thank you for attending this service.
Please join the family for refreshments and fellowship in Ponzini Life Fellowship Hall following the graveside service.
