Joyce Alice Warwick Carroll, 92, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015. She was born November 7, 1922 in Watford, England. While serving in the Royal British Navy during WWII she met an American officer, Donald Carroll at a USO function. They were married and she began her life as a military wife, traveling the world. After Don retired they moved to Houston and San Antonio, and finally settled in Texas City.
Joyce was a beloved Wife, cherished Mother, Nana and Great-Nana and was a faithful friend to many. She was an accomplished seamstress who could sew anything from a pillow case to a quilt or coat, and could upholster a chair. Her family always looked forward to a "Sewn by Nana" gift or clothing. Joyce's infectious laugh was known and enjoyed by all who knew her, as was her smile. She was a source of strength, encouragement and wisdom to her family and friends, never spoke a harsh or unkind word and was loved by all who had the opportunity to know her. She will be missed and forever remembered by family, friends and all that knew her.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents John and Alice Warwick and husband Donald E. Carroll, Maj (USAF retired). She is survived by her children Jill Slicker (Phil), Peter Carroll (Beth), Gail Nash (Stephen), seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Beaman, Bryan Carroll, Randy Drinkwater, Cameron Drinkwater, Todd Engel, and John Armand. Honorary Pallbearer is Michael Frazer.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am, Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am, officiated by Rev. David Tessman. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at the Houston National Cemetery.
