Joy Elaine Avant, 81, passed away at her home in Texas City on Wednesday March 13, 2013 surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday March 19 at 10 AM at the Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Visitation for Mrs. Avant will be Monday March 18 from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
Joy was born on March 27, 1931 to Danal J. and Ila Suella Mills in Bay City. She enjoyed an active life with her husband, James. She is a Past President of the
Social Order of Beauceant, an auxillary of the Commandery of Knights Templar, and a life member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6378.
Before becoming ill, Joy loved to bowl. She was also a member to several leagues throughout the years. She loved to read, watch television, crochet and spend quality time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, sisterinlaw and one grandson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, of over 56 years, James her two sons, Walter L. Butch Avant and wife, Beyhan, and Larry L. Avant. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be David Williams, John Hoelewyn, Tommy Finley, Rodney Stanley, Sr., Nathan Bruce and Ian Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dickinson Memorial Post 6378, Veterans of Foreign Wars, at P.O. Box 983, Dickinson TX 77539.
