Josephine Kirk

Josephine (Jo) Overton Kirk of Texas City passed away at the age of 90 on August 15, 2016. She was born in San Angelo, Texas on January 11, 1926 to Louise Saul and Patrick Hunter Overton. Jo grew up in Hutto, Texas and graduated from Hutto High School in 1943. She received a BBA from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 1946. In 1957 she married William Everett Kirk, a fellow graduate of Southwestern.

Jo taught school at the elementary level for thirty-two years. She was a talented educator, an avid reader, and enthusiastic traveler through all the states, Europe, and Russia. She was our family genealogist, researching family history in numerous places in the U.S. and England. She was active in numerous genealogy organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Colonists and the Nicolas Martiau Descendant Association.

Jo was pre-deceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her son, William Overton Kirk, M.D. (and wife, Constance), of San Antonio, Texas, three grandchildren, Claire, Caitlin, and Anne Kirk, two sisters, Patty Overton and Frances Overton Wolter, nephews Patrick and Thomas Wolter, and niece Jane Wolter Williamson.

Our time with her is cherished and she will be remembered for her independence, candid humor, love of family, and strength of character.
