Jose M. Hernandez, 102 years, of Houston, TX, passed away Friday, March 15, 2019 at his home in Clear Lake City, surrounded by family.
Mr. Hernandez was born in Morelia, Mexico on March 8, 1917, and proudly served in the US Army, deployed to Europe during World War II. As a Bazooka operator, Mr. Hernandez was one of the many brave men that invaded Omaha Beach on D-Day, leading the way for victory in Europe.
After returning to the United States, Mr. Hernandez began his lifelong career as a Merchant Marine, retiring in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Hernandez; daughters, Minerva Gomez and Rachel Salinas; 6 grandchildren; Diane Carreiro, Yvonne Jarkesy, Maria Elena Salinas, Carolina Salinas, Guillermo Salinas, Benito Salinas, and several great-grandchildren, including Michael, Joseph, George, Maximus and Olivia.
Visitation and a Rosary will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, TX. Mass followed by a luncheon will be held Friday, March 22, 2019 at 10:30 AM. This will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Church in Houston, TX. Burial services will begin at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, March 23, 2019, and will be held at the Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, TX.
Pallbearers for the service are Joseph Hall, Anthony Carreiro, George Jarkesy, George Jarkesy III, Maximus Jarkesy and Richard Martinez.
