John William Starkey, Jr., 87, of Texas City, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2016, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Strickland officiating. Entombment will follow at Hayes-Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Mr. Starkey, was born February 23, 1929 in Gallatin, Texas. He worked for the Railroad for 55 years. He enjoyed ceramics, painting, playing dominos and eating with his church group. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is Preceded in death by his wife, Mary
Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Toy Glidden, Joyce Harvey, Ronnie Henry, Wayne Starkey and wife Betty, Eddie Glidden and wife Rachel, Gary Starkey and wife Linda Ray; numerous great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Bill Daegle, Joe Lassester, James Harvey, Billy Simmons, Michael Montegut, Harold Tipping and Walter Harvey, Robert Harvey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Texas City Missionary Baptist Church
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Hung Le, at Beeler-Manske Clinic, to the doctors and staff at Mainland Medical Center and The Lakes Care Center for the excellent care and concern given to Mr. Starkey, also to the Texas City Railroad for all of the phone calls and those who came to see him, God Bless each and everyone of you.
