John Robert Pinkston passed from this life on Sunday, November 12, 2017.
John was born in Mercedes, Texas on October 31, 1937 to Edward Gregory Pinkston and Katherine (Kate) Alice Seidcheck. John graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. After a brief stint in the Army, John went to work for The Texas Department of Transportation in 1959 where he played a significant and major role in the improvement of the Interstate Highway, State Highway and Farm to Market Road System in Galveston County. He worked on every project involving the IH 45-Galveston Causeway Bridge since the new southbound bridge was completed in 1961. He was promoted to Area Engineer in 1984 and held that position until he retired on October 31, 1997. After retirement, John was able to pursue his passion for fishing.
John married Carrie Ann Walker on December 5, 1964 and had 2 children Laura and Paul. John and Carrie were married for over 50 years until her death in 2016.
John was preceded in death by his wife Carrie, father Edward, mother Katherine and brother Greg. He is survived by daughter Laura, son Paul and wife Margaret, grandchildren Teresa and Luke, brother David and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. A service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City with burial following. John will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet in Dickinson.
