Jo Ruth Pugh, 84, of Texas City died June 2, 2012 from complications of a long illness. A memorial service will be held at Baker Drive Baptist Church, 3900 Baker Drive, in Dickinson on Saturday, June 16, 2012 where Jo Ruth was a member. Visitation and fellowship will begin at 10 A.M. with the service beginning at 11:00 A.M. She wished for her remains to be spread with her previously departed husband near The Big Cypress on Toledo Bend Lake outside of Hemphill, Texas.
Jo Ruth was born in Newton, Texas on October 18, 1927, to Lewis and Katie Ferguson. While working as a secretary at the Beaumont Motor Exchange, she met the love of her life, Jimmy Pugh. The couple married in 1956. They moved to Texas City in 1965 where she worked as a housewife and was a member of the garden club until they moved to Hemphill, Texas to run 944 Park and Motel on Toledo Bend Lake. In 1980, they moved back to Texas City, Texas where she worked with Jimmy as a coowner at Cardin Starter and Alternator Service and as an assistant administrator for Coastal Pines Nursing Home until retirement. Jo Ruth treasured her husband, Jimmy, her family, and her friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jimmy her son, Charles DeRise her sister, Minnie Alice Gooch and brother, Lewis Ferguson.
Survivors include her daughters Gloria Lacy, of Texas City, Texas and Rejeania Cagle of League City, Texas her son and daughterinlaw, Larry and Courtney Pugh of League City, Texas numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the many caring individuals who provided comfort for Jo Ruth until her death Belinda Falk, Lynn McDonald, Angie Magehe, Cheryl Hillyer, and Jackie McNiel.
