Jesse Lundry Ray was born December 7, 1917 the son of Katie Effie Bowling Ray and Thomas Ray of Aley Community in Henderson, County, East Texas.
Jesse had three sons Don, Bob and Joe Ray by Wilma Ray Hansen. He had one daughter, Tracy Ray Stewart, with Bobbie Jean Nelson Ray.
Jesse was a home builder and business man in Galveston, County most of his adult life. During his long career he built hundreds of houses and developed several subdivisions. He also built and owned several apartment complexes and commercial buildings. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gun collector, and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was recognized in 1999 by the Texas City Sun newspaper as a Hero of the Mainland in their Vision 2000 Series and the Texas City Builder of Dreams.
In 1954 he was voted president of the Galveston County Home Builders Association. He was one of the founders and charter members of Calvary Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas.
Jesse Ray died at his home on Third Avenue North in Texas City on March 2, 2013. He is survived by his four children, Don Ray and his wife Marcy Miller Ray, Bob Ray, Joe Ray and his wife Liz Ray and Tracy Ray Stewart and her husband Tracy Stewart his five grand children, Doug Ray, Laura Butler, David Ray, Kara Ray, and Kim Berry and nine great grandchildren, Tyler Ray, Riley Ray, Rachel Ray, Faith Butler, Levi Butler, Jessica Ray, Dustin Sayre, Spencer Sayer, and Aiden Berry.
His burial will be a graveside service at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 5. 2013 at the Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas. Viewing will be at the Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City from 6:00P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on March 4, 2013.
