Jennifer Lee Furen Whitted, 65, of Texas City, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in Texas City.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Visitation will precede the service at 9:00 A.M., Saturday, February 2, 2013.
Jennifer was born on September 15, 1947 in Baytown, Texas. She spent her adolescence there, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School. Jennifer then attended The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston where she received her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education.
After college, she moved to the Texas CityGalveston area and began her professional career as a kindergarten teacher in Galveston. She served as adjunct faculty at College of the Mainland in the Child Development Center, and as Head Start Director in Galveston before being an educational consultant and mentor for the Childrens Learning Institutes Texas School Ready Project.
Jennifer enjoyed volunteering in projects, especially those related to her children. She was a Cub Scout Leader, Girl Scout Backpacking Leader and PTA Lifetime Member. She loved nature and traveling with her husband. Together, they visited 48 states and numerous national parks, many in the American west.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Bud and Ethyl Furen.
Left to cherish her memories are, her husband of 42 years, Robert Whitted sons Jeffrey Whitted of Brooklyn, New York and Scott Whitted of Texas City, Texas numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
