JAMES W. BURKHALTER
James Weldon Burkhalter was born and raised in Garrison, Texas, to Gifford and Lula Burkhalter on February 24, 1924. He went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2013. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor.
After his military time, he attended Sam Houston University until the Texas City Explosion in 1947. He then decided to come to Texas City to help rebuild the town. He met his wife, Billie Jo Birdwell in Texas City where they married and remained to raise their family.
James worked for Amoco Refinery for 43 years and retired as a chief operator. After his retirement James spent his time gardening. He loved to show his produce to those who visited his home.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers and two sisters daughterinlaw, Glenda Burkhalter son, David Burkhalter and grandsons, Jeremy Burkhalter and Joshua Burkhalter.
He is survived by his wife, Billie his sons, Mike Burkhalter, Carl Burkhalter, and Kevin Burkhalter grandchildren Joey Ferguson, Dana Burkhalter Bucci, Jamie Burkhalter, Shawn and Marla Burkhalter, Dustin Burkhalter, Jaqueline Burkhalter, Lauren Burkhalter, and Taylor Burkhalter greatgrandchildren Kaitlyn Dean and Devin Burkhalter.
Pallbearers will be Joey Ferguson, Shawn Burkhalter, Dustin Burkhalter, Taylor Burkhalter, Ben Bucci, Kaitlyn Dean and Brent Johnson.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 3 pm 6 pm at EmkenLinton Funeral Home. The service will be held on Monday, December 30th, at 10:00 a.m at EmkenLinton Funeral Home.
