James Richard "Rick" Morrow

James Richard "Rick" Morrow, Age 86, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023. Rick was born to Archie Lee Morrow and Oleta Raycroft Morrow on September 19, 1936, in Houston, Texas. Rick was predeceased by his parents, his brother Kenneth Wayne Morrow, and his sister, Linda Lee Morrow. He is survived by his beloved companion of many years, Judith Brokaw, and his four children: daughter, Cheri Morrow Murray, and sons, James Richard Morrow, Marty Richard Morrow (and wife Chris), and Calvin Lee Morrow. As well as his brother William Frank Morrow, (And wife Susan).

Rick received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston in 1958 and a law degree from New York University Law School in 1961. Rick was a born salesman, starting with his selling figs from his backyard fig tree to neighbors when he was five years old. He continued working throughout his school years, college, and law school, at a variety of jobs including selling insurance. After his graduation from law school, he went to work for an insurance agency and a few years later opened his own agency selling Farmers Insurance. In his third year as a Farmers agent, he became the nationwide, number one salesman for the company and he held that position for 17 years, an accomplishment that he worked hard to achieve. He was Farmers' "Golden Boy”. One year, he even rode an elephant in the Rose Bowl Parade as their representative.

Eventually, Rick sold his insurance agency, after deciding that retirement was not for him, and he opened the Window Guys, a window installment company, and ran that for a number of years, before selling it. His recent ventures were developing small office/warehouse complexes and, at the time of his death, he was in the process of developing a much larger complex of buildings.

Life was not all work and no play for Rick, however. He definitely liked to have fun. In recent years, he and Judith participated in Galveston's Mardi Gras with fellow members of the Krewe of Gambrinus, social activities with his friends and family, and traveling, which was one of the couple's passions. Rick and Judith traveled all over the world, and he was proud of the fact that they had visited every continent, even Antarctica. Right to the end, in spite of significant health issues, Rick was looking forward to a planned cruise with Judith scheduled for this November.

Memorial services for Rick will be held in the Chapel of St. Luke's United Methodist Church on September 5, 2023, at 11 a.m. with visitation and light refreshments in the Hines Baker Room afterward.
