James Richard "J.R." Ingram, 88 of Texas City, Texas, passed into the hands of the Lord on Wednesday March 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 20, 1926 in Harlingen, Texas to William Oscar Ingram and Margarite (Hayne) Ingram.
They later moved to Arkansas, where he later met the love of his life, Margaret (Thompson) Ingram and married in 1952.
J.R. honorably and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He moved to Texas and went to work for Smith and Douglas and later American Oil, Amoco Oil where he retired from and has enjoyed 27 years of retirement. He was an avid gardener and loved playing golf and spending as much time with his grandchildren as he could. He was also an active member of First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; William Lee Ingram and C. "Red" Ingram and a special cousin, Gene Chandler. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Thompson Ingram, sons; James "Jim" Ingram, Jr. and wife Ruth, Steven A. Ingram and wife Deidra both of Santa Fe, granddaughter Brittany A. Ingram and John Savoie, Blake Ingram and wife Kim and great granddaughter Kynlee Ingram. His face would light up every time she walked in the room. He is also survived by one sister in law, Joan Newton Ingram, one brother in-law, H.W. Thompson and wife Linda, numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.
We would like to thank our caregivers, Jenny, Barbara, Edie, Pat, Mary Ann and Gaynisha for providing the care and attention our father needed. Your dedication and compassion for taking care of our dad was and is appreciated so very much!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Dementia/Alzheimer Association or First United Methodist Church in Texas City, Texas.
