JAMES JIM GATEWOOD
James Jim Gatewood, 74, of Texas City, went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2013, surrounded by his family and loved ones in Houston, Texas
Funeral services will be held at EmkenLinton Funeral Home, Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Beaumont, Texas. Visitation will be 5:007:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2013 at EmkenLinton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Jim was the only child of Wilma and John Gatewood of Beaumont, Texas. Jim graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor Degree in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering. He was a registered professional engineer and was retired from Sterling Chemical. He was a volunteer firefighter at the plant, and served in the United States Army.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Wilma and John Gatewood. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Nancy Thornton Gatewood of Texas City and his two sons John Gatewood Candis of Pearland, Texas and Robert Gatewood Donna of Tomball, Texas. He had four grandchildren whom he adored Grant Northcutt, Zachary Gatewood, Zane Gatewood and Rachel Alex Gatewood. His mother in law Ruby Thornton, brother in law Alan Thornton Pam and their children Christyn and Ashley all of Lumberton, Texas.
Jim was an avid collector of antiquities always searching for a special treasure. He was a talented machinist and craftsman. He loved boating and being outdoors, especially in the woods. He loved learning new things and acquiring knowledge. Most of all he loved his family, friends and his Lord. His legacy is that of a loving and devoted husband, dad and papa, a true friend and mentor, a faithful follower of his Savior. His humor and humble spirit will be missed.
We would like to thank Dr. Nasir, and the entire staff of the Methodist Heart Team for their care and concern over the past 12 years. Also, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of those who have been praying and supporting our family throughout this difficult time.
