James Clifford Jim Fuller, Jr., R.Ph., 82, of Texas City, died at his residence on Thursday, December 15, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on November 18, 1929 in Diboll, Texas to Jim and Marian Fuller.
Jim graduated from Texas City High School in 1947. He was one of the survivors of the April 16, 1947 Texas City Disaster when a World War II Liberty ship the S.S. Grandcamp exploded in the port of Texas City. After high school he continued his education at the University of Houston where he met his devoted wife of 58 years, Betty. He received his B.S. in Pharmacy and opened Fuller Drug Service in 1958. Many residents of Texas City still recall having medicine delivered to their homes by Jims dear friends and coworkers, James and A.J. Payne. Jim received a Citation of Achievement for completing 50 years from the Texas Board of Pharmacy. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served on the medical staff on base at Fort Hood, Texas.
Jim and Betty raised their 4 children, Sara, Leanne, Buzz, and George in Texas City. Jim was a charter member of St. Johns United Methodist Church where he was affectionately known as the bubble gum man. This was a tradition started by his father to pass out bubble gum to the children following church service each Sunday.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Marian Fuller and his sister, Sarah Jane Fuller. He is survived by his wife, Betty sister, Kay Fuller Ashworth daughters, Sara Riske, and husband, Glenn, Leanne Post, and husband, Chris sons, James Buzz Fuller, and wife, Cindy, George Fuller, and wife, Rhonda. grandchildren, Glenn Thumper Riske, Jr. and wife, Kimberly, Dee Clough and husband, Mike, Kristen Fuller Davis and husband, Jason, Tara Fuller, J.R. Post, Josh Post, Brett Post, Madeline Fuller, Carter Fuller, Ashley Munoz, Britni Munoz, and Joseph Munoz, Jr. greatgrandchildren, Kennedy Riske, Morgan Perry, Parker Clough, Tanner Davis, Emma Davis, Jayla Conway, Jayse Conway, and Zaelen Munoz nieces, Katy Conti and husband, John and Amy Brannon and husband, Spencer, great niece and nephew, Kalley and Tyler Conti and many other loving family members.
A visitation will be held Sunday, December 18, 2011 from 57 pm at EmkenLinton Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 2 pm at EmkenLinton Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at 11 am on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Withers Cemetery in Buna, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Riske, Jr., J. R. Post, Josh Post, Brett Post, Mike Clough, Jason Davis, and Carter Fuller.
