James W. Fewell, Buddy to all who knew him, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the age of 91 at home surrounded by his family. Buddy was born June 1, 1928 in Lueders, Texas, to John Willard and Nora Ford Fewell. He grew up in Sealy, Texas and was a longtime resident of La Marque, Texas. He was active in many community organizations. He was a Boy Scout leader, an instructor of water safety with the Red Cross and a Union Carbide volunteer. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity building homes well into retirement. He was a very dedicated blood donor donating a total of 190 gallons of blood. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in La Marque. Buddy worked as a merchant marine, for the Santa Fe railroad and retired in 1991 from a long career at Union Carbide.
Buddy enjoyed spending time with family He loved to read and always had a book in hand. He also was an outdoorsman with a love of observing nature that he passed on to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to travel, boat, hunt, fish, birdwatch, camp and garden. He cultivated a pecan farm in Chappell Hill, Texas and won many awards in pecan shows.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 1 stepdaughter and his beloved wife of 35 years, Billie Flowers Fewell. He is survived by the mother of his children, Geneva Stafford (D.W.) and their children, Doug Fewell (Carol), Mike Fewell (Kathy), Jennifer Moree (Chip) and Dennis Fewell (Johnette). He embraced Billie and her family as his own, Candy Britt, Carla Caldwell (deceased), Bill Flowers, Mike Flowers (Karen), Randy Flowers (Barbara). Together they had 21 grandchildren, Charmaine Taflinger, Jason Fewell, James Fewell, Dennis Fewell, Lamar Moree, James Moree, William Moree, Christopher Fewell, Matthew Fewell, Jimmy Britt, Athena Degise, Aaron Caldwell, Byron Bowman, Daniel Bowman, Stephen Flowers, Wesley Flowers, Travis Flowers, Jennifer Schneider, Kyle Flowers, Amy Ray, Audrey Triche; 33 great grandchildren, Taylor Danford, Julia Jeffords, Mason Fewell, Mia Fewell, Rhiannon McNeel, Tristan McNeel, Scarlet Caldwell, Aydan Bowman, Zyla Bowman, Evan Bowman, Ian Bowman, Kennedy Flowers, Owen Flowers, Evie Flowers, Jesse Flowers, Christopher Flowers, Mason Flowers, Sierra Flowers, Ryker Flowers, Connor Flowers, Ty Brumbelow, Koby Brumbelow, Katelyn Beard, Noah Schneider, Liam Schneider, Zane Schneider, Bowen Schneider, Lennon Flowers, Addison Ray, Layla Ray, Ben Ray, Charlotte Triche, Brooks Triche and 1 great great grandson, Dallas Danford. He touched many people in his 91 years and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
