James Leroy Cook, Jr., 72, of Texas City, Texas, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas, with a reception to follow at 1509 20th Ave North. A Visitation will be on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas.
James Leroy (Jim) Cook, Jr. was born on July 4, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas. Jim was an HVAC Specialist in his family’s business, J.L. Cook and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning, which was established in 1957 by his father, James L. Cook, Sr. Jim became co-owner of the company in 1988 with his brother Larry. Jim was a member of the Galveston County Sheriff Department’s Marine Division, an Eagle Scout and long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Texas City. Jim was active in the Texas City Little League and Texas City Girl’s Softball Associations. Jim took great pride in coaching and supporting his son and nephew in baseball, and his daughters and nieces in softball. Jim was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, and was eager to lend a helping hand whenever he was needed.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Leroy Cook, Sr., and his mother, Marjorie Margaret (Meuth) Cook.
Survivors include (daughter) Laura L. Cook of Texas City; (daughter) Ann M. (Cook) Graber and husband Nathan of Texas City; (son) James R. Cook of Texas City; (grandson) Jaxon Graber of Texas City; (brother) Larry W. Cook and wife Freda of Texas City; (niece) Debra (Cook) Taylor and husband Brian of Dickinson; (niece) Jennifer (Cook) Herm and husband Anthony of Texas City; (nephew) Patrick W. Cook and Brandi Bergeron of Dickinson.
Additional survivors include (great-nephew) Zachary Taylor of Dickinson; (great-nephew) Devon Solari of Galveston; (great-niece) Mackenzie Herm of Texas City; (great-nephew) Seth Taylor of Dickinson; (great-niece) Kylie Herm of Texas City; (great-nephew) Ethan Herm of Texas City; (great-niece) Carter Murphy of Dickinson; as well as numerous cousins, family members and friends.
The funeral service will be officiated by Deacon Steve Mistretta of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Scriptural readings will be given by Ethan Herm and the eulogy will be delivered by Seth Taylor.
Pallbearers are Nathan Graber, Zachary Taylor, Anthony Herm, Ethan Herm, Patrick Cook and Edward Mutch. Honorary Pallbearers are James R. Cook, Larry Cook, Seth Taylor, and Jaxon Graber.
