Harriet “Jean” (Rigby) McKnight, 95, of Texas City, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at Mainland Center Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2019, at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Texas City, Texas. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
Jean was born on January 13, 1924 to Harry and Agnes Rigby in Galveston, Texas. She met her husband, Mac, while working for the Galveston Housing Authority. After staying home to raise her four children, she enjoyed a career at Moore Memorial Library in Texas City. Jean was an avid reader who loved to travel in their motor home, cross stitch, and, in her later years, build dollhouses. She also spent numerous hours volunteering at her church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Luther “Mac” McKnight, her parents, and her sisters Lorraine Lange (Oscar), Mary Coerver (Fred), Sarah Blanton (Reed), and Cora Criswell (Cris).
Survivors include her children, Sally McKnight, Judy Howard, Laura Kaase (Kenneth), and James McKnight; grandchildren, include Michelle Gentry (Robert), Alicia Gentry (Dustin), Kyle Rab, Rachel and Daniel Howard, and Kira McKnight; great-grandchildren include Eric, Luke, Isaac, Landon and Colin Gentry. Jean is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Pallbearers are Kyle Rab, Daniel Howard, Robert Gentry and Dustin Gentry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
