Freda Dowdy Lange, 90, of Texas City, Texas passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Bayou Pines Care Center in La Marque, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m., Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, Dr. Richard Klieman officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday, October 16, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. also at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Freda Lange was born July 31, 1927 in Franklin, Texas to Cleveland Andrew Dowdy and Emma May Dowdy. She moved to Texas City in 1940 and later graduated from Texas City High School. She went to work for Union Carbide in July 1946 in the Transportation Department where she worked until her retirement in January 1986. She was an avid bowler and participated in several state tournaments. Freda married Bobby Lange in October 1951 were married for 64 years until his death in May 4, 2016.
Freda is preceded in death by her parents, Cleveland and Ella May Dowdy; husband, Bobby Lange; brothers, James Dowdy, Bryan Dowdy, Bryant Dowdy and Jay Dowdy; sisters, Ada Redden and Nellie McCrary; nephew, Johnny Dowdy; and niece, Nikki Lange.
Survivors include, brother-in-law, Nick Lange of Rockhill, SC; nieces, Debbie Rabe and Teresa Daniels of Rockhill, SC; Terri and Pete Appostaluk of Seattle, Washington, Deb and Mike Dodd of Bryan; nephews, Nick Lange, Jr. of Little Elm, Roger and Dianne McCrary of Santa Fe, Roney and Pat McCrary of Santa Fe, Darrow and Carolyn Redden of Nelsonville, TX; and numerous cousins and friends.
