FLOYD JOSEPH WALKER
Floyd Joseph Walker, Sr., 71, died at home on Saturday, April 5, after battling cancer for seven months. Born on Oct. 8, 1942, Floyd was a lifelong resident of Texas City. He was the youngest of five children for Lucien and Etiennette Walker.
Floyd was a graduate of Texas City High School, class of 1961. He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967. He worked in the medical division and ran the blood bank at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He returned to Texas City and married Frances Jane Russo of Galveston, Texas, in 1968. Pursuing his love of science, Floyd attended the University of Houston, graduating with his Bachelor of Science in 1972. For 33 years, he worked at Amoco Oil Company as an operator, chief operator, IE specialist, computer specialist and a systems manager, retiring in 1998.
Floyds intense love of gadgets led him into experimenting with computers. He spent many hours building computers and designing software. Floyd had a lifelong love of learning and was an avid reader. He was fascinated with history, science and politics. All of his friends will recall deep discussions and debates on all these subjects. He believed in family and enjoyed life, committed to his Cajun roots he liked the saying Laissez les bons temps rouler.
In retirement, Floyd and Frances, ran the blood drive for St. Marys of the Miraculous Medal. Since his days in the service, Floyd was committed to the cause of saving lives through blood donations.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Frances Walker and two children, Floyd Walker, Jr. and Michele WalkerMoak. He has four grandchildren, Diego Lopez, Aaron Walker of League City, Texas and Dane Moak and Ava Moak of Round Rock, Texas.
He is also survived by two brothers, Jerry Walker and Lucien Walker and one sister, Mary Manwell.
Floyds family will receive visitors from 57p.m. on Wed., April 9 at EmkenLinton Funeral Home in Texas City. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m. on Thurs., April 10th at St. Marys of the Miraculous Medal in Texas City, with Father Tom Ponzini officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
